Google Stops Universal Analytics: Migrate to Google Analytics 4 Today

Google Universal Analytics will no longer be available. If you want to continue tracking your website data, you will need to migrate to Google Analytics 4.

Google has announced that starting July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics will no longer be available. If you want to continue tracking your website data, you will need to migrate to Google Analytics 4. GA4 offers many new features and improvements over UA, so it is important to make the switch as soon as possible. In this blog post, we will discuss the differences between Universal Analytics and GA4, and show you how to migrate your data from UA to GA4.

How to migrate to Google Analytics 4

Remove the old Google Analytics tracking code and put the new Google Analytics 4 tracking code in the header of your website, or use Google Tag manager to replace the tracking code.

Activate conversions in google analytics 4. Create the conversions using the conversion wizard.

Don't forget to check all the google analytics integration, like Google Ads, Google data studio or other reporting tools.

Is Google Analytics 4 a better solution for marketers?

The biggest difference between Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 is the tracking method. Google Analytics is an event-based measuring method and UA is page view based. This means that every action on the website, like a scroll, click, or new page load is sent to analytics and tracked.

The report design is a big improvement. Especially the real-time report looks great and is nice to look at. The Acquisition report gives a good overview of the traffic from the google search engine for your websites.

Our experience with GA4

At Softpare.com we use Google Analytics 4 from the start of the website. The first month it takes some time to get used to the reports but once you start using it you slowly going to love the reports. We also use the Google Analytics Universal reports. The first period we missed the overview for specific pages but now we learn to use it we have essential insights again.

No history

You can migrate the old data from Google Universal to Google Analytics 4. So the history of all the years is going to be lost, so migrate as soon as possible. If you wait until next year you lost a year of history. And you can run both versions at the same time.
